the appraisal EXPERIENCE

An appraisal is an opinion of value. There are different types of value, and the type of value concluded by the appraiser depends on the intended use of the report.

All of our appraisals are prepared in conformance with the Principles of Appraisal Practice and Code of Ethics of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) and the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), promulgated by the Appraisal Standards Board of The Appraisal Foundation.  We are qualified appraisers, as required by the Internal Revenue Service for all appraisals involving taxes.

The appraisal process

INITIAL CONSULTATION
Elizabeth will talk with the client to establish what type of property is in question, what type of appraisal is needed, a timeframe for the project and any relevant history and factual information.

ON-SITE INSPECTION
We will come to examine the property(ies), photograph and measure, and document everything.  If you have any relevant documentation (sales information, past appraisals, or provenance information) please provide these at this time.

RESEARCH + REPORT WRITING
The meat of the appraisal development is in the research.  We conduct exhaustive research using databases, literature, auction records, experts and catalogs to pull comparable sales for analysis and determine a value conclusion. The research and value conclusion is complied into a detailed report.

REPORT TRANSMISSION
The appraisal report and any relevant IRS forms (when applicable) will be provided to the client.

Fee Structure

Appraisal fees are based strictly on the number of hours worked and have no relation to the value of the art appraised. Please contact Elizabeth Lovett for more information about fees.
